An air compressor variable frequency drive (VFD) keeps discharge pressure steady while cutting energy on part-load cycles. Our compressor-duty VFDs run the pressure PID loop, handle frequent load and unload transitions without tripping, and integrate with screw compressor packages for single-point control of the whole machine.

Match the drive to the motor power (5.5–400 kW) and the compressor type. Screw and centrifugal machines need fast current limiting and good cooling; allow for high ambient temperature by derating the drive or adding forced ventilation. Confirm the control signals — pressure transducer, load/unload contact, and remote start — before ordering.

How to Select the Right Air Compressor

  1. Check the motor nameplate: rated power, current, voltage and frequency.
  2. Identify the load type — variable torque (fans, pumps) or constant torque (conveyors, compressors, mills).
  3. Match the drive's rated output current to the motor's full-load current, not just the kW rating.
  4. Confirm the overload requirement: 120% for light duty, 150% or more for heavy duty.
  5. Check the environment: ambient temperature, dust, humidity and cable length derating.
