Screw compressors carry most of a plant's air load, and the variable frequency drive (VFD) decides how efficiently they follow demand. Our screw compressor VFDs run the pressure PID loop, ride through frequent load and unload transitions without tripping, and keep the airend inside its safe speed window at part load.
Match the drive to the motor and to how the machine is built. Fixed-speed screw compressors are commonly converted to variable speed by adding a drive and a pressure transducer; new PM-motor VSD units need a drive matched to the synchronous motor and a higher carrier frequency. Derate for high ambient temperature or add forced ventilation, and confirm the control signals — pressure transducer, load/unload contact and remote start — before ordering.

How to Select the Right Screw Compressor
- Check the motor nameplate: rated power, current, voltage and frequency.
- Identify the load type — variable torque (fans, pumps) or constant torque (conveyors, compressors, mills).
- Match the drive's rated output current to the motor's full-load current, not just the kW rating.
- Confirm the overload requirement: 120% for light duty, 150% or more for heavy duty.
- Check the environment: ambient temperature, dust, humidity and cable length derating.
