Vibro-Compacting Press for Engineered Quartz Slabs: Drive Selection for a High-Inertia Shaker

Engineered quartz slabs are made by three simultaneous physical actions. The mix of quartz aggregate and resin is degassed in a closed chamber pulled down to between −0.095 and −0.1 MPa, so no air pockets survive into the finished surface. It is then compacted by high-frequency vibration, typically 28 to 51 Hz, while 10 to 15 MPa of vertical pressure is applied — the combination is what pushes the slab to its final density. Finally the resin cross-links in a curing oven at 80 to 120 °C.
Of the three, vibration is the part a drive controls directly, and it is the part that punishes a badly chosen drive. A vibrating motor carries an eccentric mass; every start has to accelerate that mass from rest, and the instantaneous torque demand at the moment of breakaway is far above the steady running figure. Sizing from the 110 kW rating alone would leave the drive short at exactly the moment it is needed.
Yolico specified a YD3185 T4 N for the 110 kW induction motor with its 212 A full-load current. The frame was chosen for its starting capability against the eccentric load rather than for a comfortable steady-state margin, and the V/f curve was tuned in stages rather than left at a default.
The parameters that mattered were the ones shaping the low end of the curve. Input voltage was set to 400 V to match the supply, maximum output frequency to 55 Hz, maximum output voltage to 380 V with a 50 Hz base. Below base speed the curve was given a deliberate boost — an intermediate point at 3 Hz / 24 V and a minimum point at 1.5 Hz / 12 V — so that the motor produces useful torque at the low frequencies it passes through on every start and stop without over-fluxing at the top end.
On site the drive runs the press in multi-speed steps. The machine starts smoothly, holds each vibration stage steadily, and the parameters above are the ones recorded during commissioning at the Linyi works in December 2025. For anyone specifying a similar press, the lesson transfers directly: match the drive to the breakaway inertia of the eccentric mass and shape the low-frequency V/f curve, and the shading of the nameplate becomes a secondary question.
